Marilyn Monroe (1926–1962) was an American actress who appeared in 29 films in 1946–1961. Her career began with shortlived film contracts with 20th Century-Fox in 1946–1947, during which she had bit parts in two films, and Columbia Pictures in 1948, appearing in her first starring role in the low-budget musical ''Ladies of the Chorus'' (1948). In the following two years she appeared in minor roles in several films, including ''The Asphalt Jungle'' (1950) and ''All About Eve'' (1950). Although the roles were small, she signed a new contract with Fox in late 1950. Her major breakthrough came in 1953, when she starred in three films: the Technicolor film noir ''Niagara'' and the comedies ''Gentlemen Prefer Blondes'' and ''How to Marry a Millionaire''. Her other films for Fox include ''River of No Return'' (1954), ''There's No Business Like Show Business'' (1954), ''The Seven Year Itch'' (1955), ''Bus Stop'' (1956), and ''Let's Make Love'' (1960). She founded her own production company, Marilyn Monroe Productions, in 1955; the company produced one film independently, ''The Prince and the Showgirl'' (1957). Outside her work for Fox, Monroe also starred in ''Some Like It Hot'' (1959) and ''The Misfits'' (1961). She was suspended from the filming of ''Something's Got to Give'' in June 1962, and the film remained uncompleted when she died in August. ==Film appearances==
